Abstract: A hands-on practicum can integrate informatics knowledge and data science skills taught in formal courses using adult learning principles. Active and experiential learning is recommended in graduate-level programs since these techniques have a more significant effect on higher education. During this presentation, we will describe challenges and successes of a practicum we launched at the University of Utah that uses the FHIR standard to develop apps that can be integrated with EHR systems
